Oxford School District announces changes to summer lunch program

Local school districts will be discontinuing their meals-to-go program for the current school year this week, but plans for the summer are already in place.

Oxford School District will stop its current meals-to-go program on May 20, while Lafayette School District’s will run through May 21. Lafayette does not have any plans to offer meals to students during the summer, according to superintendent Dr. Adam Pugh.

Oxford will resume its annual summer meal program on June 1, but meals will not be served in the school cafeterias like normal due to COVID-19.

The seven locations OSD used for its meals-to-go program will be also be used for their summer meal pickup locations. This will remain in place through the month of June, OSD’s Heather Lenard told the EAGLE. Regulations and social distancing guidelines will dictate operations for the second half of summer.

“July may allow us to move back into cafeterias, where students and families could come in and sit to enjoy breakfast and lunch,” Lenard said.

One change to the locations is that the Oxford Middle School pick-up location will move across the street to Bramlett Elementary. This move is due to some scheduled summer construction at OMS, according to Lenard.

The seven locations are listed below:

  • Bramlett Elementary (225 Bramlett Boulevard)
  • CB Webb Townhomes (900 Molly Barr Road)
  • Brittany Woods Subdivision (Highway 6)
  • Wayne Johnson Apartments (2223 Delores Drive)
  • Western Hills Area (Near Anchorage Road)
  • Oasis Church (861 Highway 6 West)
  • Springhill Area at Our Store Grocery (861 Highway 6 West)
